Blog Feedback and Learner Response

Blog Feedback and Learner Response:   WWW: There is some strong work on your blog already – I like your analysis for ‘Reading an image’ and you use media codes and subject terminology well. You’ve also chosen an excellent advert of your own to analyse. Your media consumption audit is also very good – it’s great you’re reading the Guardian and listening to an interesting selection of podcasts already. Keep this up! EBI: Two key areas to improve here: firstly, some of your work is unfinished and it’s so important to make sure you are organised and fully completing work. For Semiotics you haven’t completed the second part of the work (Icon, Index, Symbol). Secondly, over the next few weeks try and add to the depth and detail of your blogposts. For example, you could have offered a far more detailed analysis of the two adverts when applying reception theory. This will help you push towards the higher grades. LR: Complete any missing or unfinished work. Then, create a blogpost on your Media

This article is suggesting that playing violent videogames can encourage aggressive behaviour and make them view the world as hostile. 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone  criticise  this front page?  This shows how the media we consume can have a negative effect on us. 3) What do  you  think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media? I think that the hypodermic needle theory applies sometimes as some people do believe everything they see in the media however, some people know better than that as not everything you see in the media is true. The hypodermic needle theory has become sli

Assessment 1: Learner Response

WWW- you start well: very close to the upper levels in Q1 and Q2 which shows good potential. The challenge is now reaching that level (or higher) across the whole paper.  EBI- was timing an issue? not enough for Q4 as a 20marker. - media theory is a major area to focus on and perhaps explains the marks for q3 + 4 -make your analysis more detailed and specific: don't describe, suggest potential meanings Media Theory   Todorov- The gun shows disequilibrium  Tzvetan Todorov proposed a theory of equilibrium: Equilibrium:  An existing state of harmony Disequilibrium:  Equilibrium is disrupted by an unfortunate event or evil character which leads to a chain of events involving conflict New Equilibrium:  The evil forces are defeated, the conflict is resolved and harmony exists once more Enigma and Action Codes - Roland Barthes Barthes suggested that stories have certain codes that audiences understand and respond to. ENIGMA codes:  control how much we know and help hold our interest. It c
